AMarkets broker trading platform – MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 terminal: how to trade Forex and CFD

Trading platform of the broker Forex and CFD AMarkets - MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 terminal (downloaded from the official website of the broker and installed on your personal computer). The only difference is that MT 5 is a more improved and new version of the MT 4 terminal. At the same time, for MT 5 there are fewer technical analysis indicators, advisors, and robots than for the MT 4 terminal. Therefore, my choice fell on MetaTrader 4 and I will be analyzing it, although MetaTrader 5 is no different (visually), so my review is also suitable for MT 5.

The first thing a trader needs to do is connect to an existing account created earlier, or create a demo account directly in the MT 4 terminal:

opening a demo account or logging into a real account in MT 4

If you already have a real account registered with the AMarkets broker, then you will need a Login and Password, which must be entered in the appropriate form:

A clear sign that you are logged into your trading account will be the display of the trade balance under the price chart in the “Trade” section and the appearance of account information in the “Navigator” window:

The MetaTrader 4 trading terminal (like the MetaTrader 5 terminal) looks like this:
  • Most of the screen is occupied by the selected asset price chart (or windows with asset charts)
  • Under the chart – a bar for switching between active asset windows
  • At the very bottom there is a panel of balance, open and closed transactions, as well as additional information (news, Market, display of signal operation, and so on)
  • To the left of the price chart there is a window for selecting assets for trading
  • In the “Navigator” window, you can select and add indicators and advisors installed in the terminal to the chart
  • Above the price chart there is a chart settings panel
Assets for trading are located in the window for selecting assets for trading. To open the chart of the desired asset, you need to click on the asset strip with the left mouse button and select “Chart Window” - a window will open showing the history of asset quotes:

opening a chart of the selected asset in MT 4

You can immediately apply a ready-made template to an open chart, containing a color scheme, indicators, scripts, advisors, and additional settings. To do this, you need to right-click on a free section of the chart, select “Template” and in this window indicate which template you want to apply to the chart:

In the same window, you can save the settings of the current chart by creating a new template and, in the future, using it on other assets - a convenient tool that allows you to install trading strategy templates with all indicator settings in a couple of clicks.

At the top, above the chart, there is a price chart settings panel - here you can:
  • Add levels, lines, symbols to the chart. Inscriptions, geometric shapes
  • Change the time frame of the active price chart of an asset

There are additional chart settings:
  • Displaying a chart in the form of bars
  • Candlestick chart
  • Line graph
  • Increasing or decreasing the scale of the price chart
  • Ability to place all active charts of selected assets in one window
  • Automatic rewinding of the chart following the price
  • Right indent

Indicators are added by dragging from the Navigator window to the chart window. Almost every indicator has its own settings, changing which you can achieve the desired effect in a particular situation. There are not many standard indicators, but at any time you can find hundreds of thousands of free indicators for the MetaTrader 4 terminal on the Internet and add them to the terminal for further use in your own trading:

The deal opens in the “New Order” window:

Opening a new deal in MT 4 with the broker AMarkets

In the window that opens you need to:
  • Indicate the asset on which you want to open a transaction (according to the standard, the value is taken for the active window with the asset)
  • Indicate the transaction volume (in lots) - this value indicates the cost of a price change in 1 pips. This value directly affects the speed of earnings, but also increases risks.
  • Specify the Stop Loss value – the price value, upon reaching which, the transaction will automatically close at a loss. A very important parameter that will help keep most of the funds on your balance sheet if the forecast is incorrect.
  • Specify the Take Profit value – the price value upon reaching which the transaction is closed in profit
  • Click on one of the buttons to open a deal, according to your forecast. Please note that there is a different price for the buy price and the sell price - the distance between them is called Spread
After opening a trade, the price chart of the asset will display the trade opening level, as well as the Stop Loss (red) and Take Profit (blue) levels. If this does not happen, then drag the open trade icon onto the price chart. The Stop Loss and Take Profit levels can be moved directly on the asset chart, thus you can adjust these parameters more finely (next to these levels the amount that you can earn or lose is displayed).

It is recommended to set Stop Loss to Take Profit as 1:3 - for one unit of risk there should be three units of potential profit. For example, your balance allows you to risk $100 in one trade (this amount is the Stop Loss level), in this case, the Take Profit level should be three times higher - $300. This approach will allow you to make money even if most of your trades are unprofitable.

In addition, the ability to shift the Stop Loss and Take Profit levels can be used for break-even trading: if the price moves in the direction you want, then you should move the Take Profit level further, and move the Stop Loss level to the profitable zone - the trade will close 100% in profit, so how when you touch Stop Loss there will be a minimum amount of profit, and when you reach Take Profit there will be a maximum amount. By shifting the Stop Loss and Take Profit levels behind the price, you can make money on very long trend movements.

Your entire trading history will be displayed in the “Account History” section. As you can see, most of my trades turned out to be unprofitable, but this did not stop me from turning into a plus with just a few profitable trades - the main advantage of trading on Forex and CFDs:
